Sample itinerary: Nairobi/ Maasai Mara/ Lake Nakuru/ Amboseli/ Tsavo/ Nairobi – 8 days

Day 1: Nairobi

You will be met by Time for Africa representative at Jomo Kenyata International Airport who will transfer you to the hotel for your overnight stay; accommodation is booked on a bed and breakfast basis. The rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2: Nairobi – Maasai Mara

Leaving Nairobi early in the morning after breakfast, we will travel towards Kenya’s highlands and head down the Rift Escarpment. En-route you will enjoy stunning views of The Great Rift Valley. We will have lunch on the way and then a couple of hours late we will reach Maasai Mara – you will embark on an afternoon game drive returning to the camp site as the sun sets. The game viewing will follow with dinner in your camp/lodge.

Day 3: Maasai Mara

After an early morning breakfast, you’ll leave the camp on a game drive to the banks of the Mara River. Here you’ll be met by a Ranger who will escort you on foot along the riverbank to a population of wallowing hippo. The Mara River is a major obstacle to the animals on the Migration and the favourite spot for all animal wildlife photographers when the great migration occurs.

When the river becomes swollen you will be lucky to see some of the biggest crocodiles in Africa. This day could be your most thrilling day with the opportunity to spot the Big Fives on the vast savannah and the wildlife roaming around you – you will be in the heart of this wildlife – rich reserve. The reserve also offers fantastic opportunities for viewing big cats – breath-taking views of lioness with cubes will be something for you to remember and treasure. Today you will have one of your most memorable lunches – we will have a picnic on Kenyan and Tanzanian border where Maasai Mara stretches into Serengeti. A full day in the Maasai Mara will follow with dinner at the campsite.

Day 4: Maasai Mara – Lake Nakuru

After an early morning game drive when the sun rises will be followed with the late breakfast at the campsite. Leaving the Maasai Mara after breakfast we will travel across the vast plains of the Rift Valley heading for Lake Nakuru. We will arrive at your hotel for lunch. After lunch we will take an afternoon game drive in Nakuru National Park.

The park is known to be the bird’s sanctuary and it is also known for the only park in Kenya where you could see both the white and black rhinos. Lake Nakuru is also home to many herbivores including Rotshchild’s giraffe, buffalo, hippos and other mammals including lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, rock hyraxes and reedbuck. We will be back at your accommodation for dinner.

Day 5: Nakuru – Amboseli

After an early morning game drive, when is the best time to watch animals we will be back to the hotel for breakfast. We will leave for Naivasha after breakfast.

Naivasha is around 1 hour away from Nakuru and Lake Naivasha with Lake Baringo are the only freshwater lakes in the region. The shores of this beautiful lake host abundance of bird life and have especially large numbers of pelicans, cormorant and fish eagles. After visiting Lake Naivasha we will leave for Amboseli, stopping for lunch on the way in the local restaurant. We will arrive in Amboseli for dinner and overnight at the campsite/lodge.

Day 6: Amboseli

After breakfast a full day game drive through the Amboseli National Park will awaits you. Amboseli is located on the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro (5895m), Africa’s highest mountain. The snows of the mountain form a majestic backdrop to one of Kenya’s most spectacular display of wildlife: lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, cheetah, and buffalo – creating Kenya’s most sought after photographer’s paradise.

This compact park is most famous for its large elephant population. Amboseli was declared a park to protect its unique and fragile ecosystem; it offers landscapes of remarkable contrast: arid areas alongside the lush oases of the swamps. From the Observation Hill you will have a view of the entire park and especially the areas where buffalo, elephants, hippos and water birds come to cool off and refresh themselves. Today we will have a picnic lunch served in the park with possible views of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. Dinner and overnight at campsite/lodge.

Day 7: Amboseli – Tsavo

Tsavo is the largest park in Kenya and one of the largest in the world and it is a haven for wild animals. It is famous for its large herds of dust-red elephants, cheetah and short-maned Tsavo lions. We will wake up early this morning to watch sun rise and if the sky is clear we will have a good chance to see the monumental Mount Kilimanjaro. After a morning game drive we will come back for breakfast at the camp site and then leave for Tsavo West arriving at Tsavo West National Park in time for lunch.

The most common creatures here are elephants, rhino, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, giraffe and zebras. We will stay in the lodge/camp overlooking the park so you will have a chance of sightseeing at the comfort of your chair.  .

Day 8: Tsavo – Nairobi

After breakfast we will board a safari vehicle and drive to Tsavo East in the heart of elephant country. En route to Tsavo Eats National Park we will visit the Mzima Springs where hippos and crocodiles can be seen swimming in the clear waters. The Galana River provides a scenic strip of lush greenery and attracts wildlife year-round. After a game drive we leave for Nairobi.

We will stop for lunch on the way in the local restaurant. Once in the city, you will be dropped at the airport for your on-going travel arrangements. Alternatively we can drop you off at the hotel where you can relax and plan your further journey. Please ask us about your accommodation options. The journey ends in Nairobi late in the afternoon. .
